Perfect Alpine Lake Elopement in the Fall

A + D knew they wanted to do something different for their wedding vows. While they live in Florida, they both fell in love with Colorado and felt it was the perfect place to celebrate their commitment to one another. When they reached out to me, they had a vague idea of what they wanted. Somewhere outside (duh) to showcase Colorado’s beauty to their handful of family and friends invited along for the ride. A spot that was easily accessible. And they liked the idea of a lake. A handful of places came to my mind immediately.

Part of my job as a Colorado elopement photographer is to help my couples find the perfect location for the vows. I send along tailored lists with very detailed info on accessibility, best seasons, info on surrounding towns, etc. For A + D, after careful consideration and a trip to see this very spot I recommended near Vail, Colorado, they decided it was perfect for them.

Pro-tip: Are you planning an elopement in the Colorado mountains? I ALWAYS recommend opting for a weekday if you can swing it. Especially if you’re looking to elope in an easily accessible location such as this one. A lot of places can be busy during the weekend and if you want a semblance of privacy for your ceremony, you can’t go wrong with a weekday.

We started the afternoon a little nervous! Rain was coming down and looking like it would be staying most of the day. But I assured A + D that the weather here is always changing and they were game to see how things progressed as they were ready to head from their big Airbnb off Dillon Reservoir to the elopement ceremony location. As soon as everyone was ready to go, the rain had slowed and there was barely a drizzle as we arrived to the alpine lake. We got so lucky!

A met D atop a lovely rock outcropping and that’s where to ceremony took place, with their family and friends watching. With yellow aspen trees along the shore as well as beautiful green pines, a moody overcast sky and a slight mist, dare I say it was the perfect autumn day for a magical elopement in the mountains?

Right as the ceremony ended, the rain started coming down more aggressively. So we took a few quick photos and headed back toward the Airbnb—only 10 minutes away—where it magically wasn’t raining. Colorado mountain weather, y’all.
