A Horsetooth Reservoir Engagement Shoot | Colorado Wedding Photographer
Picture this: Sunrise. Alpenglow. Freshly fallen snow and a half frozen body of water. The calm of an early morning in the middle of winter. Or really, you don’t have to picture it. You can see it for yourself in these engagement photos at the beautiful Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Truthfully, I hadn’t thought about Horsetooth Reservoir in years. I don’t often go up to Fort Collins. But after a winter storm kept myself and this lovely couple visiting from the East Coast from shooting in the mountains, we had to pivot. They had told me they’d be in Fort Collins for a night before hitting up more wedding venues in the south and Horsetooth Reservoir came to my mind immediately for a location. With no idea what it might look like after the snowstorm, we planned to meet at a little parking area before the sun was up and venture to a spot I hadn’t been to in 5 years. But a spot I remember had some beautiful views of the water and surrounding foothills.
My memory did not do this place justice.
After a fairly quick but steep ascent in the snow, we breathlessly took in the views and boy oh boy, we had made the right call deciding on engagement photos at Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins. It felt like another world with the pristine snow and sunrise lighting up hills.
I’m so glad these two were up for a last minute change of location. I certainly won’t be overlooking this spot in the future!
