M + J | An Engagement Among the Fall Colors in Tower Lakes

I’ll admit, I’m still learning—and likely always will be learning—to let my couples’ love speak to me and direct how I photograph them. At the end of the day, I want you to have images that absolutely ooze you. That burst forth from the screen—or print—your love and spirit and character. I want you to look back five, ten, twenty years from now and see exactly who you were in these moments, not who I made you out to be.

M + J were absolute troopers this day, the last one of October. True to fall form, Chicago and its surrounding suburbs were overcast and damp and chilly but these two had smiles on their faces the entire time. We played in the fallen leaves, ran across bridges (they actually ran across a bridge and I watched from afar and was terrified they’d slip and fall in the lake), and wandered around the neighborhood J grew up in. Even when it started to rain and I think many other people would have thrown the towel in, these two soldiered on and we found the most vibrant red leaves I’d ever seen.

I hope these photos will be looked back on five, ten, twenty years from now. I hope M + J see themselves, exactly who they were in these moments, and treasure them for years to come.
